FROM MOVEMENT
TO OBSERVATION
When I first picked up a polishing machine, simply learning how to guide it demanded most of my attention.
But during BUILD / 001, I noticed my attention beginning to shift.
I wasn't only thinking about where the machine was going anymore. I was starting to watch what happened while it got there.
None of these elements works in isolation.
What interests me now is what happens where they meet.
My grip changes how I control the machine. Pressure changes the interaction. The pad changes as I work. The product changes as it is worked across the surface.
And somewhere inside all of that is the result I'm looking at.
I don't understand every relationship between those variables yet.
That's exactly why I'm paying attention to them.
I DON’T NEED
THE ANSWER YET
One of the things I want Built by S. to preserve is the difference between noticing something and knowing why it happened.
An observation can become a question.
A question can become something to test, study or notice again during the next job.
But one experience doesn't automatically make a rule.
OBSERVE → QUESTION → LEARN → TEST AGAIN

BUILD / 001 was the job that made me start thinking about the polishing process this way.
The work was completed. The questions weren't.
